Creative Age - Dementia and Imagination

Equal Arts at Bowes Museum

Engaging with the museum collections to deliver dementia friendly creative sessions.

Residents living with dementia from local care homes visited the museum to experience heritage.

Research has shown that cultural and heritage experiences can have a positive effect on wellbeing. Making art accessible to people living with dementia, participants were invited into the galleries at Bowes Museum to view and discuss the collections. In creative workshop sessions participants responded to the gallery experience, using digital cameras to create portraits inspired by the paintings.
